Helix secures eco-friendly safety upgrade for Berkshire affordable housing scheme

A development of affordable family homes in Berkshire will receive an innovative all-in-one downlight and safety solution thanks to a new partnership between SME construction company Helix and innovative UK lighting manufacturer, Lumi-Plugin.

The Lumi-Plugin downlight is capable of integrating emergency lighting, sprinkler/mist heads, smoke alarms, heat alarms, CO alarms and PIR sensors – with new innovations to hit the market early 2022. The streamlined unit saves time and materials by removing the need for what would ordinarily be multiple devices. Helix has supported fellow Newbury business Lumi-Plugin with support through its development phases.

By combining essential ceiling fixtures with state-of-the-art downlights, Lumi-Plugin and Helix can offer a complete solution to streamline interiors while still accelerating installation, reducing risk to life and carbon footprint.

Tom Martin, Lumi-Plugin  Specification Manager, said: “Helix offers a breath of fresh air to the industry as a forward-thinking and innovative partner.

“The high levels of engagement and enthusiasm we’ve felt as a supplier has allowed us to progress our product offering and further understand what’s truly important to our customers. As a result of working with Helix, we have made incredible improvements to aesthetics, design, build times and sustainability for our clients’ developments.”

This upcoming installation will be the first of Helix’s projects to benefit from this new technology.

Nic Davies, Managing Director at Helix, said: “As soon as we sat down and discussed the Lumi-Plugin, we could see it was something that could really benefit our clients. As a South East-focused SME company, committed to adding value to the communities in which we build, it is great to collaborate with another Newbury-based company. This innovative product   can improve safety, resource efficiency and interior design on a large scale.

“This development supports our commitment to  social purpose driving our 2021 business plans and the eco-friendly pillar of our Building Respect working approach.”
