Berkshire-based contractor Helix goes hiking to raise money for local families

A band of builders will trek across the highest peak in Brecon Beacons National Park in September to raise money for their corporate partner, Home-Start West Berkshire.

On 10 September, team members from across Helix will tackle Pen Y Fan to raise £2,500 for the local family support charity. This follows a previous fundraising effort in 2019 when hikers from the Helix team scaled Snowdon and ran the Windsor Half Marathon with Home-Start West Berkshire Director, Grace Green, and raised over £2,300.

Nic Davies, Managing Director at Newbury-based Helix Group, said: “From day one, we set out to be guided by our core values. Home-Start provides fantastic, vital support to local families. They seemed a natural partner for Helix as we continue to build homes that help improve family life.

As part of our partnership, we ensure all colleagues understand our commitment to the cause. With our team growing fast, this trek is a fantastic opportunity for new members to rally together for the good of the community. Hopefully, the trip will be enjoyable for all involved”.

The former West Berkshire Community Baby Bank was recently gifted to Home-Start West Berkshire by its founder Kayleigh Powell. The new service will help support families with the essential items their children need in the early years.

Donations for this expedition will go towards a Project Coordinator at the Baby Bank who will work 16 hours a week to coordinate 8-10 volunteers to collect and distribute excellent condition second-hand items in and around West Berkshire.

Greenham Trust selected Home-Start West Berkshire for match funding for their Baby Bank project up to £5,000. For every £1 donors give towards the walk, the Trust will match £1.

Grace Green, Director at Home-Start West Berkshire, said: “We can’t emphasise enough the difference that having this support means to Home-Start West Berkshire. It stretches the support we can offer to families when it is greatly needed, and it enables us to work on projects that sustain our charities income. Thank you to Greenham Trust and all the team at Helix.”
