Construction firm and family charity successfully scale Snowdon in fundraising trek

A team of fundraisers from construction firm Helix and charity Home-start West Berkshire have successfully trekked to the summit of Mount Snowdon to raise vital funds to support local families.

Climbing in aid of Home-start’s Preventing Family Poverty project, a 20-strong team battled their way to the top, taking the steepest route, and raising over £8,000.

Home-Start West Berkshire, which has been a corporate partner of Helix Group since 2018, has offered emotional and practical support to over 300 local families.

During this time, Helix has raised almost £30,000 for the charity, through various fundraising activities and challenges that include previous team hikes on Snowdon and Pen y Fan, as well as a half-marathon.

With this year’s fundraising efforts going towards Home-Start’s Preventing Family Poverty campaign, which will support families across West Berkshire throughout the cost-of-living crisis, the team were thrilled to reach the summit and raise so much for families in need of extra help in such tough economic times.

Grace Green, Director of Home-Start West Berkshire, said: “It was a real challenge climbing the steepest route to the top of Snowdon, but we all knew it was for a great cause. There are so many families going through financial hardship right now and we know it’s likely this will worsen in the months ahead.”

“This fundraiser has been vital to helping families maximise their income and finding the right sources of support. We are incredibly grateful for the support of Helix. They are a welcoming and generous team, and we couldn’t have had a better group of people to take on such a challenge with.”

Commenting on the importance of engaging with local causes, Nic Davies, Managing Director at Helix Group, said: “At Helix, we have always strived to support our local community as it plays an important part in our Building Respect approach, which promotes safety, wellbeing, and sustainability across everything we do as a business.”

“The trek was great fun, but we all knew how seriously the money we were raising is needed. We’re thrilled to have once again supported Home-Start with the vital work they do across the local area, particularly as things become even tougher for already struggling families, and we want to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored us.”
