Expanding construction firm appoints Construction Director

Building expert, Helix, has welcomed Jon Schofield into the new role of Construction Director as it continues to evolve to meet new demand for its services.

Helix works as a contractor and developer on sites across the southeast, with a particular focus on building affordable housing. Jon’s appointment comes at an exciting time for the company as it continues its ambitious growth plans, having already secured over £13m of new projects for 2023.

Jon brings over thirty years’ experience in residential construction across both the public and private sector. He began his career in the construction industry at the age of 16, inspired by his father who was a decorating contractor, before becoming a Building Studies lecturer.

Having experienced various roles while studying, Jon set his sights on site management, and went on to spend nine years with Wilmott Dixon, as well as working with Kier. With another eight years spent as a client of development firms, Jon brings a broad level of expertise and understanding of the industry.

He said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Helix at a pivotal moment for the organisation, as we continue to grow, attract new clients and win larger contracts than ever before, all while remaining true to the core values that has built the business to what it is today.

“Helix treats its people well, providing opportunities to start or grow a career. We have an open-door policy, no one is unapproachable, and no idea is too obscure or simple to be listened to and considered. That inclusive and progressive attitude, combined with some exciting projects in the pipeline, makes me incredibly excited to see how we continue in the years to come.”

Jon will take leadership of Helix’s construction operations, customer care and resident liaison, another area he sees Helix leading the way on, with the recent appointment of a Resident & Community Liaison Manager, Paula Frame

The appointment also allows for other senior figures in the company to shift to new roles.

Carl Mulkern becomes Managing Director for Helix Construct and Nic Davies takes up the position of Group Chief Executive Officer on the Helix Group Board, with responsibility for both their contracting business, Helix Construct and development company, Helix Partnership Homes, as well as continuing as Director of New Business for Helix Construct.

Commenting on Jon’s appointment to the Helix team, Carl said:

“Jon will provide us with the skills and capacity to accelerate our plans and growth for the future. We are delighted to have him on board.

“A proven leader, his appointment brings an extremely capable and forward-thinking addition to the team, while also allowing others to concentrate on new business and guiding the company through this exciting stage of growth.”
