Incline Cottage, Henley-on-Thames
Helix was appointed main contractor to deliver this beautiful, contemporary, five-bedroom, family home near Henley-On-Thames. The project involved retaining and enhancing a historic farm worker’s cottage by providing a new two-storey, contemporary living space. A substantial new wing was constructed from a structural steel frame, timber framework and finished with lightweight, contemporary cladding and roofing materials, including traditional flint feature panels. Our client remained close to the project throughout, choosing to work within the grounds of site. During the construction phase, ground-source heating was introduced, adding an environmental advantage to this fantastic project.
- New five-bedroom, contemporary, family home, complete with refurbished farm worker’s cottage
- Structural steel frame design
- Ground-source heating installations
- Pro-active approach to budget solutions
Helix worked hard with both the project architect and client to create a framework of design and construction options prior to entering into contract to enable the project to be procured and built to the client’s budget. By rationalising non-essential works, we were able to focus on the elements of the build and finish that were important to our client.
- Managing late design change
The introduction of ground-source heating came mid-way through the project. The Helix team quickly engaged with the supply chain and re-set the programme and sequence of works to accommodate the change. While managing a change of this size mid-way through a project creates challenges, we believe that it is vital we do everything possible to fulfil our client’s brief.
